Review #415 (Book Review #115):
Completed another one from one of my fav writer Michael Crichton STATE OF FEAR (687pgs/24days). This book was first published in 2004, its a sci-fi techno thriller based on the fear the world is spreading about global warming.
It has a story wherein our protagonist are trying to foil attempts by some so called environment protection agencies to disrupt the environment, and it speaks that more than any threat of global warming, its the fear which is fed to everyone, in reality global warming is non existent, the thing happening is natural, happens everytime with intervals, and human intervention to correct something which is natural occurring phenomenon is actually making it worse, it also put a problem forth that any research done by scientists should be done independently where researcher should not know who is the funder, that way it will remain ethical and truthful. The story is same, where some good guus trying to save earth. So yeah on story front the book is weak, not upto the mark if compared to other MC’s novels, but it presents a different and unique idea and message of fear and manipulation, which is proven by many (a long bibliography and references are provided in the book throughout the story and at back as appendices).
I rate the novel 4.5/8, its good in facts but its lengthy for not so long story, took a lot of time to establish the characters. Story took a lot of time and pages to open the thrills otherwise till so many pages confusion is going on, and thrill wise nothing exceptional. But as a MC fan I will recommend the novel to other fans and reading fanatics.
May be stamina with u…
