He is back!!

BAHURUPIYA (2013) 6.5/8 YES Crime Thriller Rs.100 (Amazon.in) Surender Mohan Pathak [4.28/47 ratings Goodreads] Language: Hindi

Review #427 (Book Review #127) :

So I have read and reviewed Hindi novels before also, but this is my 1st Hindi novel review on this platform i.e. on WordPress. So here’s it:

Completed one more Hindi novel, which I started reading in may, yes it took time (due to my needs of reading varying things at a time) but it is one of the best Hindi novel I’ve read from SMP – BAHURUPIYA aka IMPERSONATOR.

BAHURUPIYA is a crime mystery belonging to Sudhir Kohli series and it is #21 of the series (out of total 22) in the chronological order and was first published in sept 2013. Now something about the writer. Surender Mohan Pathak is a well known Indian writer who has written a lot of Hindi language novels esp crime thrillers, he has these character-series to his name: Sunil (121 novels), Vimal (42), Sudhir (22), Independent (44), Jeetsingh (10), Mukesh (4), Vivek (5), Vikash (3), Pramod (4) and many other books – short stories, children books, joke books etc. And he is my favourite Hindi writer after Devkinandan Khatri.

Something about story: Now as the name suggests, it deals with a mystery of an impersonator. A lady is found dead in a farm house at Chhatarpur and that lady’s mother has come to PD Sudhir Kohli to engage him for the case. It seems his long-dead ex-husband is back and he wants to kill everyone. And Police and PD is unable to find the truth, while murders happened across the town.

The mystery is good and you can think of various possible answers, however a good crime mystery reader can guess who is the killer but to me this book comes as a fresh surprise. I’ve read many books from SMP and some are good, but my last 2-3 reads of him I was not satisfied by the mystery hence I was somewhat reluctant before reading this one, and it comes out as a change for me. The writing style is same, as is of all his novels, sometimes it feels itritated since one liner dialogues comes in between between 2 characters and if you’re not reading it with your full attention you may get lost about who spoke which dialogue. Plus some hindi words he used is not commonly used, I would appreciate if he was able to use relatable words for all characters and not just the words he prefers.

But the style, the mystery was good because for a regular reader, he/she will not be able to guess who is going to be the killer and everytime someone new occurs. I Recommended this book with 6.5/8 rating.
